En 2001, Faso Fani, la célèbre manufacture de cotonnade burkinabé ferme, entrainant le chômage de centaines d’employés et la misère, conséquences désastreuses d’une politique économique mondiale aveugle aux réalités locales. Dix ans après cette catastrophe économique et sociale, Michel K. Zongo revient à Koudougou, sa ville natale, et dans cette usine qui a marqué son enfance. Les ex-employés, bien que dépossédés d’un outil de travail qui faisait leur fierté, restent convaincus que la remise en route de la filière du coton est un avenir possible.
The Siren of Faso Fan explores the disastrous consequences of global economic policies that are blind to local realities. In 2001, the shutdown of the famous cotton factory in Burkina Faso, put hundreds out of work, plunging thousands into poverty. A decade after this economic and social disaster, Michel K. Zongo returns to Koudougou and to the factory that was so central to his childhood. Stripped of their livelihood and of their pride, the former workers remain convinced that reviving the cotton industry can offer a viable future
Né en 1974 à Koudougou (Burkina Faso), Michel K. Zongo est réalisateur, cadreur et scénariste. Il a suivi une formation en prise de vue au Centre national de la cinématographie du Burkina Faso, suivie d’un stage de premier assistant opérateur à Cinedoc Films, en France. De 2003 à 2008, il est responsable du Cinéma-débat interactif à Cinomade (Burkina Faso). Après avoir été cadreur et assistant réalisateur sur de nombreux films, il écrit et réalise, en 2009, son premier film documentaire Sibi, l’âme du violon.
