Viktor Valerevich Mumikhotkak, un Yupik surnommé Mukha vivant sur la péninsule tchouktche, est mort en 2012 dans des circonstances tragiques, poignardé à l’abdomen, les doigts mutilés. En 2014, quand la jeune Alla Ukuma donne naissance à son premier fils, sa mère lui dit : « Hier soir, j’ai rêvé de Mukha. Il était de retour à travers ton fils. Nomme ton bébé Viktor ». Selon les habitants de la Tchoukotka, les morts peuvent revenir jusqu’à cinq fois au royaume des vivants. Cet essai cinématographique sur la vie, la mort et le retour possible pose la question universelle de la confrontation à sa propre fin.
Viktor Valerevich Mumikhotkak, also known as Mukha, a Yupik Eskimo from the hamlet New Chaplino (Chukotka, Russia), died tragically in 2012. Someone stabbed him in his abdomen and cut off his fingers. In 2014, when young Alla Ukuma gave birth to her first son, her mother told her: « Last night I saw Mukha in my dream. He had come back as your son. Let us name your baby Viktor ». According to the local people the dead can return to the realm of the living up to five times. This film essay on life, death and the possibility of returning to earth poses the universal question: How do you confront your own end?
Jaroslava Panáková, docteure en anthropologie sociale (Université d’état de Saint-Pétersbourg, Russie) est également diplômée en cinéma documentaire (FAMU de Prague, République tchèque). Elle étudie les peuples autochtones Sibérie depuis 2001, combinant travail de terrain et approche filmique. Ses films ont été projetés et primés dans plusieurs festivals européens.
